Mission: The Washington County WIC program is committed to improving the nutrition and health status of women, infants and children by providing nutritious foods, nutrition and health education and referrals to health and human service providers for all eligible families within Washington County.

Purpose:
    To provide nutritious supplemental foods to eligible women, infants and children

    To improve prenatal health and birth outcomes

    To promote breast feeding as the preferred infant feeding method    

    To promote physical activity at all age levels

    To promote health eating habits through Eat Well Play Hard initiative

    To link families with health and human service providers

The Washington County WIC program is federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the New York Department of Health.  There are over 100 WIC programs sponsored by various agencies and medical facilities in New York State.  WIC provides nutritious supplemental foods, health and nutrition educational links to other services.  Through Washington County Public Health, WIC is able to link families with programs such as lead prevention, the car seat safety program, MOMS prenatal services, Early Childhood Programs, and immunization services.

New York Sate Department of Health recognizes this WIC program for providing quality service to families utilizing the WIC program and for serving 75% of eligible women, infants and children, when the state average is only 50%.
