Eating Well for a Healthy You!

The Office for the Aging provides nutritional services to the residents of our county age 60 and over and their spouses. Services available include a nutritious noon meal at the Washington County congregate meal sites, along with fellowship, social activities, nutrition education and individual nutrition counseling. Reservations must be made one day in advance at all sites. Please call one of the following numbers to make a reservation or for more information between 10:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. Transportation may be available to the sites.

(Suggested donation of $2.00 per meal - Guests/visitors under 60: $5.00 per meal). The Nutrition Program is funded by the participants contributions as well as the Washington County Board of Supervisors, and the Federal Older Americans Act and state funds through the N.Y.S. Office for the Aging.

Nutrition/Eating Well
Home Delivered Meals - Home delivered meals are provided to persons aged 60+ and over who, based on an assessment, are unable to meet their daily nutritional needs. Hot meal delivered Monday through Friday, frozen meals available for the weekend. There is a suggested donation of $2.00 per meal, however no one will be denied a meal if unable or unwilling to donate.

Nutrition Counseling and Education - A registered dietician through the Cornell Cooperative Extension is available to address your needs. Whether you have a newly diagnosed illness that requires you to alter your eating habits, or just need to discuss proper nutrition, the dietician can make an appointment with you.

Food Stamps - Food stamps are coupons that can be used like money to buy food and are available to lower income people. Food stamps are accepted at most grocery stores.

New York State Farmers Market Nutrition Program - For WIC & Senior Nutrition Program Participants. Use between July 1 and November 15.

Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables can help maintain your family’s good health and well-being. Be good to yourself and make sure to eat vitamin and fiber-rich fruits and vegetables several times each day! This program helps you buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at nearby farmers markets. The produce is:
