The Washington
County Correctional Facility, located at 399 Broadway, Fort Edward,
NY was opened in 2003 to replace the old jail located in Salem, NY,
which was built in the late 1800’s. The Corrections Division of the
Sheriff’s Office employs 56 Full Time Officer’s and Approximately 20
Part Time Officer’s. The correctional staff are sworn New York State
Peace Officers and receive state mandated training and instruction
in all phases of Corrections.
The primary
goal of the Washington County Correctional Facility is to provide a
safe and secure
environment
that promotes positive inmate behavior, through fair, impartial and
humane treatment
of all
individuals incarcerated in the correctional facility, this goal
will be realized.
The correctional facility is
designed to manage inmates using the "new generation / direct
supervision" concept of the correctional facility management.
Through these concepts the
correctional facility will
structure the environment to promote a positive behavior management
system to meet inmate needs.
Inmate Visitation:
Visiting Hours are Thursday
through Sunday
8:30 am – 9:30 am
10:00 am – 11:00 am

am - 1:30 pm
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Inmates are allowed 2,
1 hour visits per week.
Visitors must sign in at the
Jail Lobby at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the visit. No
visitors will be permitted to enter the visitation room after the
start of the scheduled visitation time. Inmates are allowed two
visitors at a time in the visitation room (no switches may be made).
Infants and Toddlers are allowed to sit on a visitors lap and do not
count as a second person. Any Visitors under the age of 18 years old
must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and must also have
a birth certificate. If a minor is accompanied by a legal guardian
that is not a parent they must have proof of guardianship. Visits
are granted on a first come first served basis.
Upon admittance into the
correctional facility all inmates are entitled to a 10 minute
non-contact visit within their first 24 hours in the facility.
Visitation Rules are posted
in the jail lobby, if any of those rules are violated the visit will
be ended.
Passing of any Contraband (
any unauthorized item) is a violation of New York Penal Law 205.20,
You will be arrested.
Proper attire is required,
no jackets or hooded sweatshirts, No low cut or see through
clothing, No tank tops or sleeveless shirts.

Books and Magazines can not
be dropped off, they must be ordered and shipped directly to the
Facility. (ex. Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble)
Money / Payment Services:
Cash may now be deposited in
the Lobby by using the Cobra Banker Cash Machine. You will need
either the inmate's facility ID number or the inmate's full name and
date of birth to deposit cash. You may also use either a credit or
debit card to deposit money using this machine. You must have a
valid driver's license with an address that matches the billing
address of the credit or debit card, or the machine will not accept
the card.
Fees are charged by the
company that provides the use of the machine.
Money orders are still accepted, but they must be mailed.
No money orders will be accepted if brought to
the lobby. There will be a 5 day waiting period on money
orders to allow time for the funds to clear. Inmates will not have
access
to these funds until this 5 day waiting period has expired.
