Day
Care is a service that involves the non-residential (less than 24 hours per
day) care of children outside of their homes, having been placed there by
their parents, guardians, or other persons responsible for them.
Such care may be provided during any part of the day.
Day
Care is a critical support service in the agency’s attempt to implement
the work requirements for Temporary Assistance recipients.
Additionally, Day Care provides a necessary level of support for the
low income families that are at risk of applying and/or reapplying for
Public Assistance. In addition,
a small number of children are provided day care as part of a casework
services plan toward improving the parenting skills and the home environment
in situations where children may be at high risk for foster care placement.
There is, and will continue to be, a critical need for this agency to
sustain this level of support for Day Care services in support of work as an
alternative to welfare.
Ninety
percent (90%) of child day care programs are funded by the Federal and State
governments.
