DAY CARE SERVICES

Day Care is a service that involves the non-residential (less than 24 hours per day) care of children outside of their homes, having been placed there by their parents, guardians, or other persons responsible for them.  Such care may be provided during any part of the day.  

Day Care is a critical support service in the agency’s attempt to implement the work requirements for Temporary Assistance recipients.  Additionally, Day Care provides a necessary level of support for the low income families that are at risk of applying and/or reapplying for Public Assistance.  In addition, a small number of children are provided day care as part of a casework services plan toward improving the parenting skills and the home environment in situations where children may be at high risk for foster care placement.  There is, and will continue to be, a critical need for this agency to sustain this level of support for Day Care services in support of work as an alternative to welfare.  

Ninety percent (90%) of child day care programs are funded by the Federal and State governments.
In the provision of day care services, Washington County currently utilizes:

          122       Informal day care providers in the area serving Washington County children.

            16       Registered Day Care Homes 

11       Family Group Home

  7       Day Care Centers

  1       School age program
